Expanding My E-portfolio By Learning From Others.

This is now the fourth week of the course and I am beginning to get to the point where I know that I am satisfied with the content thus far on my e-portfolio, or so I thought. I knew that I wasn’t “done”, as this will be a continual process of adding more and more. Taking a look at some of the prior DLL students work in addition to other professional e-portfolios really brought forth more ideas of what I can add and more ideas of where my e-portfolio can go.

The prior DLL student’s site that I investigated was Chad Fexon. There is a lot of content happening on his pages. Amidst this content, I did see some sections that I want to ensure that I add at some point. The first section is “The Family” found under the About section. I highly value my family above all else and I see that as an important part of who I am. This also got me thinking about adding in a section about my personal hobbies and interests. I love video games and board games. I would consider myself to be a gamer. Gaming has been a part of my life since I was three and I feel that it would be unfair of me to not add in content regarding this. The second section that I found interesting was the “Videos for Inspiration”. I really like the idea of having a mass collection of videos for anyone to view while on my site. I think that I will plan to add this as well.

I glanced over some other e-portfolios through the list, but I ultimately ended up getting pulled into the site by Sean Robinson. His site seems to be clearly focused on the “Connections-Based Learning”. It appears that he uses this site to promote his book as well as reflect on the chat sessions that occur regularly. There seems to be a great resource on technology integration apps that promote student engagement. By simply visiting this page and reviewing some of the content, I am wanting to purchase the book for myself to review. The book can be found HERE and is only $5 for the Kindle version or $15 for the paperback.

I will continue to develop my e-portfolio over the course of these next two weeks to “complete” my e-portfolio framework. I am looking forward to seeing where my journey in the future will take me and how I will utilize my portfolio as a reflective tool as I grow as an educator and a learner.

Key Takeaways From Peer Discussions:

  • Examining other’s work can be a wonderful resource for improving upon our own ideas and work.

  • The most important content should be up front and easily visible & accessible.

  • Having a tools/tips/resources section could be beneficial for anyone visiting your site.
