All was fine and dandy in the Turnage house. We made it through the holiday travels. We pushed forward with only my oldest daughter, Kora, getting the Flu before Christmas. We were ready for the second semester of school. Little did we know that sickness was about to be rampant.
My youngest daughter, Rory, began to show symptoms of the flu late on a Sunday evening. I decided to take off the time with her since my wife, Hillary, had already taken care of Kora with the flu a few weeks prior. I took Rory to the doctor where she was confirmed to have the flu. This pretty much meant a whole week of me snuggling my little baby girl in my bed and watch TV while also making the effort to get some work done. This is a very challenging task when your daughter is tugging at your arms to simply hold her. It truly broke my heart to see her go through so much suffering. I would have gladly taken the sickness from her if I could.
A couple of days go by and the flu is still hitting Rory hard. That's when my Hillary suddenly falls ill. Sure enough, it was the flu. I still don't understand how she got the flu this time around when she was not even around the sick child, especially since she had recently been in my position with our oldest, Kora, not too long ago. As far as Kora goes, she didn't get the flu again, but she did have a cold. So needless to say, i was the last man standing!
Trying to take care of two people with the flu, while keeping them separated and also keeping my mostly not sick other daughter separated proved to be rather difficult. I would have to get up in the morning and take Kora to school to help keep her away as much as possible. This also meant that I had to take Rory, whom had the flu, out of the house just to drop off Kora. Meanwhile, my wife is on the couch not really able to function. Such a mess!
By the end of the week I was fatigued, but very fortunate to have not gotten sick. My girls recovered from their illness and all was right in the Turnage household. That is, except for the now double ear infection Rory was facing immediately following the flu. Thankfully, that was much easier to treat. It was a mess of a week, but I managed to joyfully take care of my family the best I could. I know that my wife appreciated everything I did for the family that week. She even went as far as to make me a certificate of appreciation, which I will now gladly share.
For those of you who are reading this blog post, I pray that you and your family stay in good health this year!
